Western Australia
Western Australia is made up of eleven regions - each one offering a distinct range of travel experiences and attractions. To appreciate the real Western Australia, we suggest you explore each of these regions at your leisure.
Kalgoorlie - is in the centre of the Goldfields, a truly fascinating region steeped in history and legend. Here you can see relics of the gold rush that made the area famous, plus mines that are the largest gold producers in Australia. Ghost tones, majestic old buildings, deserts and open plains create a landscape that is vast and unique. The annual wildflower season (July to September) transforms the land with the brightly coloured blooms making a spectacular contrast to the rich, red earth.
Esperance - the best way to view this region is via the Great Ocean Drive. The Esperance region is instead characterised by spectacular coastal scenery; and abundance of wildlife including seals, dolphins, whales, emus and sea eagles; pristine beaches; hundreds of islands and extensive national parks. Be sure to visit highlights such as the Pink Lake - a natural phenomenon true to its name; explore the Cape Le Grand or Fitzgerald River National Parks.
Perth - enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other capital city in Australia. Its warm sunny climate, clear blue skies and beautiful beaches are making it an increasingly popular destination with tourists. There is good shopping available, plenty of riverside and beach side restaurants and cafes, world class casino and golf courses, over 80 kilometres of white sandy beaches and a huge range of outdoor activities and experiences to enjoy.
Geraldton - a few hours north of Perth by car lies Western Australia's Mid West region. Known to many as the 'wildflower region', this area is home to one of the world's finest collections of flowering plants. In this region (subject to seasonal rains), you can immerse yourself in, and wander through spectacular fields of flowers.
Shark Bay and Carnarvon are located in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia - commonly referred to as the 'outback coast' - where the deep red soil meets the brilliant blue waters of the Indian Ocean. It is a region that offers an excellent combination of raw outback adventure activities with unique water-based experiences with waters teeming with natural phenomena such as Monkey Mia dolphins, dugong, whale sharks and the world's longest fringing reef - the Ningaloo Reef.
Karratha and Port Hedland are located in the Pilbara Region - featuring ancient mountains, breath-taking gorges, vast plains and tranquil oases. Engulfed by a 2.5 billion year old landscape are three world-class national parks, including Karjini, regarded as one of the jewels of Western Australia. During the wet summer months monsoonal rains surge through the park's gorges, creating spectacular waterfalls and sheer cliffs.
Broome and Kununnurra are located in the wild and wonderful Kimberly region - one of the world's last great wilderness areas.
Covering more than 420,000 square kilometres an area three times the size of England, it is home to only 25,000 people. This means that there are fewer people per kilometre than almost any other place on the planet.
On the coast is the township of Broome, a tranquil tropical spot, world famous for its pearling industry.
Relax and unwind on the soft clean sands of Cable Beach, swim in clear turquoise waters.
