Northern Territories
Nature overwhelms you in the Northern Territory. The skyscrapers are made out of rock, not steel, and one of the best shows in town is the million star display at night. The Aboriginal presence here is strong, their 60,000 year old cultural and spiritual connection to this region echoes in every rock and landmark. Central Australia holds one of the most culturally significant icons of Aboriginal and Australian culture, Uluru/Ayers Rock.
Alice Springs - at the very heart of Australia lies the historic town of Alice Springs - the pioneering gateway to natural monuments, colourful outback culture, and ancient Dreamtime lore. Situated 462 kilometres from Ayers Rock/Uluru and positioned between the East and West MacDonnell Ranges, Alice Springs a great touring base.
Tennant Creek - is an outback town with a rich mining history it is fiercely proud of. This where Australia's last gold rush happened in the 1930's, and there are still plenty more gold to be found.
Katherine Gorge - is south of Darwin and features the sandstone gorges of Katherine Gorge.
Darwin - surprises most people because they are not expecting a busting, modern capital city of 105,730 people, sitting on one of Australia's prettiest harbours. Green and lush with palms and the perfume of frangipanis, Darwin is the capital of tropical Australia. You'll find plenty of attractions for your entertainment; nightclubs, theatres, a casino, large shopping complexes, restaurants, multi-cultural markets and international standard sporting facilities. Darwin is the starting point for your holiday at the Top End.
Kakadu National Park - is on the Northern Territory's best-known national parks. The park is renowned worldwide, having received rave reviews as the backdrop for the Crocodile Dundee movies and having achieved World Heritage status on the basis of both its natural and its cultural significance. Kakadu's rock art sites indicate an Aboriginal presence tens of thousands of years ago, as well as the thriving modern town of Jabiru and a working uranium mine.
